Srinagar, Apr 24 (KINS): Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to visit Anantnag on Friday to enquire about the health of those injured in the recent terror attack at Baisaran valley in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 27 tourists and left several others critically wounded.
Congress sources told news agency KINS that Rahul will visit the Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag where several injured victims are undergoing treatment.
His visit comes in the wake of national outrage and widespread condemnation over the attack that took place on Tuesday.
“Terrorism has once again raised its ugly head, targeting innocent tourists who had come to experience the beauty and peace of Kashmir. My heart goes out to the families of those who lost their lives. I will be visiting the injured to express solidarity and offer support,” he said in a statement earlier.
The attack, which occurred in the popular tourist spot of Baisaran valley, saw terrorists opening indiscriminate fire on a group of tourists, leading to panic and chaos. Security agencies have launched a massive manhunt to trace the assailants.
On Tuesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also arrived in Srinagar to take stock of the situation. Shah held high-level meetings with top officials of the Jammu and Kashmir administration and security forces to review the security arrangements. He also visited the injured at the Hospital and assured all necessary support from the Centre.
The administration has set up a 24×7 helpline for assistance and facilitation of tourists in the Valley, while additional security forces have been deployed in key areas, especially around tourist hubs, to prevent further incidents. (KINS)
