J&K ACB registers DA case against CAPD night Chowkidar posted in TSO office Banihal
Srinagar, May 01 (KINS): The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered an FIR (No. 01/2025) under Section 13(1)(b) read with Section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) at Police Station ACB Doda against Shahilal Showkat Ali, a night chowkidar in the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) Department, posted at the Tehsil Supply Office (TSO), Banihal.
The case was registered following a secret verification into allegations that the accused public servant had amassed assets—both movable and immovable—grossly disproportionate to his known sources of income, in his own name and that of his family members.
Preliminary findings revealed that the accused had accumulated substantial wealth, including a palatial double-storey residential house in Israrabad, Sidhra (Jammu), another double-storey house in Banihal, several land parcels at different locations, and luxury vehicles. Investigators also discovered financial documents and evidence pointing to unaccounted wealth.
Pursuant to the investigation, search warrants were obtained from the Court, and simultaneous raids were conducted at the accused’s residential premises in Sidhra, Jammu and Banihal. The operations were carried out in the presence of independent witnesses and Magistrates.
During the searches, the ACB team seized 16 cheque books and five bank passbooks from various banks, land ownership documents, a passport indicating international travel, foreign currency, and three official rubber stamps belonging to senior officers—including one each of the Assistant Director, CAPD Ramban and TSO Banihal. Other incriminating materials were also recovered.
Further investigation into the case is currently underway.(KINS)
