Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and MMU condemn barbaric Nishat incident

KINS Desk

Srinagar, May 5, (KINS): Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, along with the members of Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema Jammu & Kashmir (MMU) expresses deep shock and heartbreak over the horrific incident in Nishat, where a tribal woman was allegedly raped and later succumbed to her injuries.

“This act of barbarity is not just a crime against an individual—it is a painful reflection of the deepening moral and spiritual crisis engulfing our society. The unchecked spread of obscenity and vulgarity through digital media, the rampant abuse of alcohol and drugs, and the growing culture of corruption and greed have severely weakened the ethical foundations of our people. The moral compass that once guided society is eroding before our eyes,” they said in a statement.

“As people of faith, rooted in the teachings of Islam—which uphold the sanctity of life, dignity, and honour—this tragic moment must serve as a wake-up call. It is imperative that we collectively reflect, repent, and return to the path of deen, ethics, and social responsibility. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and pray for the maghfirah of the victim and her exalted station in Jannat-ul-Firdous. We also strongly urge the authorities to ensure swift and exemplary punishment for the perpetrators of this heinous crime,” the statement added.
