NEW DELHI, 02 JUNE (KINS): Union Minister for Agriculture, Farmers’ Welfare, and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, is scheduled for a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir on July 3 and 4, 2025. The visit aims to bolster initiatives in sustainable agriculture, rural development, and grassroots engagement with the farming community.
On July 3, Chouhan will begin his itinerary with a high-level review meeting at the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar, joined by senior officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and the Department of Rural Development. Later in the day, he will participate in a meeting of the Consultative Committee on Natural Farming and the National Oilseeds Mission, focusing on eco-friendly agricultural practices and self-reliance in oilseed production.
That evening, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, will host a courtesy meeting for the Union Minister at Raj Bhavan, underlining Centre-State collaboration in key rural and agricultural sectors.
On July 4, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan will serve as the chief guest at the sixth convocation of the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST-K), held at the university’s Shalimar Convention Centre in Srinagar. The ceremony will also be graced by J&K’s Lieutenant Governor and Chancellor of SKUAST-K, Shri Manoj Sinha, and Chief Minister and Pro-Chancellor, Shri Omar Abdullah.
During the event, degrees will be conferred upon 5,250 undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD students, along with 150 gold medals and 445 merit certificates recognizing academic excellence. The convocation highlights the region’s growing emphasis on agricultural education and innovation.
Following the convocation, Shri Chouhan will visit the university’s saffron and apple orchards, engaging with scientists and farmers on advancements in horticulture. He will also meet with ‘Lakhpati Didis’—rural women entrepreneurs under the government’s livelihood missions—in Khonmoh village, symbolizing women’s empowerment and self-reliance in rural India.
This visit follows his recent outreach under the ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’ in Jammu and reflects the Centre’s commitment to strengthening farmer-centric policies and sustainable rural development across Jammu and Kashmir.
