New RTO Kashmir office in Bemina lacks signage, leaves visitors confused

Srinagar, July 15 (KINS): The newly operational office of the Regional Transport Office (RTO) Kashmir, which was shifted from Batamaloo to Bemina, is functioning without any visible signboard—causing confusion among the public and daily visitors.
The RTO Kashmir was earlier operating from a rented building in Batamaloo. In a long-awaited move, the office was shifted to a government-owned building in Bemina to provide better infrastructure and streamline transport-related services. However, the transition has not been smooth for the general public.
People visiting the new office complain that the absence of a signboard or even a nameplate at the entrance has made it extremely difficult to locate the building. “I went around in circles for nearly 30 minutes asking people about the new RTO office. There is no sign, no board, nothing that indicates that this is a government office,” Mushtaq Ahmad, a resident of Hawal, who came to get his driving license, told news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS).
Sources in the Transport Department said the building has become operational, but some administrative works, including installation of signage, are still pending. “The building has been functional now, but due to procedural delays, the signboard has not been installed yet. It will be done soon,” said an official on condition of anonymity.
Locals and daily commuters in the Bemina area echoed similar sentiments, saying that many people often end up asking passersby or security guards for directions, causing inconvenience.
People have urged the authorities to place a visible and clear signboard outside the new office gate to help visitors identify the location easily. Many believe that for a vital public office like the RTO, basic signage should have been part of the immediate setup. (KINS)
