INDIA bloc to discuss Jammu Kashmir Statehood demand in Saturday’s meeting: Dr Farooq Abdullah

Srinagar, July 18 (KINS): National Conference President, Dr Farooq Abdullah on Friday said that the issue of restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir will be taken up during the scheduled INDIA bloc meeting on Saturday evening.

Speaking to reporters in Budgam, Dr. Abdullah as per news agency KINS said,  “All leaders of the INDIA alliance are meeting on the evening of July 19, and we will definitely discuss the issue of statehood there,”

The INDIA bloc — an alliance of opposition parties including the National Conference — is expected to deliberate on various national and regional issues in the lead-up to the Monsoon Session of Parliament.

Dr. Abdullah welcomed the recent initiative by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, who jointly wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to restore full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. The letter also demanded constitutional safeguards under the Sixth Schedule for Ladakh.(KINS)
