Govt makes Independence Day attendance mandatory for officials; CM Omar to lead celebrations at Bakshi Stadium

Srinagar, July 30 (KINS): The Jammu and Kashmir Government has issued a comprehensive circular directing all government employees stationed in Srinagar and Jammu to mandatorily attend the Independence Day 2025 celebrations as part of their official duty.
The main celebrations will be held at Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar, and Maulana Azad Stadium, Jammu, respectively.
News agency KINS reported that the circular, issued by the General Administration Department (GAD) emphasizes that Independence Day is a vital national event marking a major milestone in India’s history and that participation from all government servants is obligatory.
Any absence from the function is only allowed with prior permission from the immediate superior.
The order has been sent to all administrative secretaries, departmental heads, managing directors, and public sector heads to ensure strict compliance.
“It is the duty of every government servant to attend the function which commemorates an important turning point in the history of our Nation,” the circular reads.
According to an accompanying communication, the Chief Minister of J&K will preside over the main Independence Day function at Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar, and take the ceremonial salute.
The government has designated several ministers to preside over Independence Day functions at various district headquarters: Surinder Choudhary, Deputy CM – Jammu, Sakeena Masood (Itoo), Health & Education Minister – Anantnag, Javed Ahmed Rana, Minister for Jal Shakti & Forests – Poonch, Javid Ahmad Dar, Agriculture & Panchayati Raj Minister – Baramulla, Satish Sharma, Minister for Food, IT & Sports – Kathua
In districts not specifically assigned to ministers, the District Development Council (DDC) Chairpersons will lead the celebrations at the district level.
Additionally, Sub-Divisional Magistrates will preside over functions at sub-divisional headquarters, and Tehsildars or the senior-most civil officers will do so at tehsil, block, or municipal levels. The concerned Deputy Commissioners will make the final decision on the designated officials at these locations.(KINS)
