Srinagar, Oct 4 (KINS):The Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation & Reconstruction (DMRRR), Jammu and Kashmir, has issued a weather advisory following a forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Srinagar, predicting widespread rain and snowfall across the Union Territory from October 5 to 7, 2025.
The system is expected to be most intense from the evening of October 5 till the afternoon of October 7.
According to the IMD, an active Western Disturbance will affect both divisions of J&K, bringing moderate to heavy snowfall over higher reaches such as Anantnag, Pahalgam, Kulgam, Sinthan Pass, Shopian, Pir Ki Gali, Sonamarg-Zojila, Bandipora-Razdan Pass, Gulmarg, and Kupwara-Sadhna Pass, while light snowfall is likely in middle reaches. The Kashmir plains are expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall, and parts of the Jammu division may witness heavy to very heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, hail, and strong winds gusting up to 60–70 kmph.
The DMRRR as per news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS) has cautioned that the impending weather conditions may lead to:
1. Disruption of surface transport, including the Jammu–Srinagar and Srinagar–Leh National Highways and other major roads in middle and higher reaches.
2. Moderate to severe thunderstorms and gusty winds at several locations.
3. Landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones in vulnerable areas.
4. Rising water levels in rivers, streams, and nallas, with waterlogging in low-lying areas.
5. Adverse impact on agricultural activities, prompting farmers to suspend field operations between October 5 and 7.
6. Communication and travel disruptions in high-altitude and snow-affected regions.
The department has urged residents to stay alert and adhere strictly to precautionary measures to ensure safety of life and property.
