Srinagar, Oct 13 (KINS): Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, Sunil Sharma, on Monday said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will make every possible effort to secure victory in all three Rajya Sabha seats it is contesting from the Union Territory.
Speaking to reporters in Srinagar ahead of the filing of nomination papers by BJP candidates, Sharma as per news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS) said the party has already chalked out its strategy and is confident of performing strongly in these elections.
“The BJP is a strong and united party. Yesterday, we finalized our roadmap for these elections, and we will make every effort to ensure that BJP wins all three seats,” Sharma said.
The BJP’s official candidates — Sat Sharma (CA), Rakesh Mahajan, and Dr. Ali Mohammad Mir — are filing their nomination papers today at the Civil Secretariat (J&K Assembly) in Srinagar. They are being accompanied by all 28 BJP MLAs, senior party leaders, and state office bearers, including BJP General Secretary (Organisation) Ashok Koul.
Expressing confidence, BJP President and candidate Sat Sharma said the enthusiasm among party cadres reflected the growing public support for the BJP across Jammu and Kashmir.
“We are filing our nomination papers today. I am delighted to see the energy and enthusiasm among our party workers,” he said as per KINS.
Senior BJP leader R.S. Pathania, while speaking to the media, criticized the opposition, particularly the National Conference (NC), accusing it of making false promises during elections.
“This is a ‘lollipop government’ that has only given false assurances to the people. I want to ask Omar Abdullah — where is the free electricity you promised? Where is the regularization of daily wagers? And what happened to your claim of restoring Article 370?” Pathania questioned.
On Sunday, the BJP held a key meeting in Srinagar, attended by all 28 MLAs and senior leadership, to finalize the party’s poll strategy. The Election Commission of India has issued three separate notifications for the elections.
While the National Conference–Congress alliance currently holds an advantage on three of the four Rajya Sabha seats, the BJP’s move to contest three seats is seen as an assertive step aimed at expanding its influence in Jammu and Kashmir.
Earlier, the National Conference had announced its three nominees for the Rajya Sabha polls, setting the stage for a high-stakes political battle.(KINS)
