Anantnag Oct 17 (KINS): Deputy Chief Minister, Surinder Choudhary, who was on his way to Jammu after completing official engagements in South Kashmir, was Friday stuck for several hours in a massive traffic jam at Mir Bazar in Anantnag.
As vehicular movement came to a complete standstill on the Srinagar–Jammu National Highway, the Deputy Chief Minister according to news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS) had to walk nearly four kilometres on foot to move ahead, drawing attention to the persistent traffic chaos and poor highway management on this vital road link.
Both tubes of the tunnel near the area were reportedly closed, causing severe inconvenience to commuters and transporters. Hundreds of vehicles remained stranded for hours, highlighting the gravity of the situation.
Taking serious note of the incident, the Deputy Chief Minister expressed deep concern over the recurring traffic mess and the hardships faced by the public. He directed the concerned authorities to take immediate measures to restore smooth traffic movement and prevent such occurrences in the future.
He called for close coordination among the Traffic Police, District Administration, and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to identify bottlenecks, improve on-ground management, and expedite widening and maintenance works.
The Deputy Chief Minister remarked that if such a situation can arise to Deputy Chief Minister, the plight of a common commuter can well be imagined, urging authorities to act swiftly and responsibly to ensure hassle-free travel on the highway.
