J&K Police Holds Awareness Programme on New Criminal Laws in Sopore

Srinagar Oct 18 (KINS): The Jammu and Kashmir Police organised an awareness programme on the newly introduced criminal laws at Government Higher Secondary School, Behrampora, Sopore. The event aimed to educate students about the key legal reforms under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) 2023, which have replaced the Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, and Indian Evidence Act respectively.

The session focused on helping students understand the restructured legal framework, their rights and duties as citizens, and the significance of legal awareness in upholding justice and accountability.

Police officers delivered detailed presentations highlighting the major provisions and practical implications of the new laws. An interactive session followed, during which students enthusiastically engaged, shared their opinions, and asked questions regarding the implementation of the new legal system.

Reaffirming its commitment to public education, J&K Police emphasised that such initiatives are vital to promote legal literacy, empower youth, and nurture a responsible and law-abiding society grounded in justice and mutual respect.(KINS)
