Srinagar, Nov 03 (KINS): The Public Relations Office (Defence), Srinagar, said that the Army paid rich tributes today to the soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice while repulsing a Fidayeen attack by terrorists in 1999.
In a statement issued to news agency KINS, PRO Defence Srinagar said that in a solemn and poignant ceremony held at Badami Bagh Cantonment, all ranks of the office paid homage to Major P. Purushottam, Subedar Brahm Dass Sharma, and four other soldiers who laid down their lives on this day 26 years ago.
“Major P. Purushottam, who was serving as the Public Relations Officer (Defence), along with his five comrades, fought valiantly when terrorists attacked his office on November 3, 1999. Major Purushottam and his team made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting journalists who were present in the office at the time of the assault”.
“Their courage and selflessness saved many civilian lives and continue to inspire generations of soldiers and citizens alike. The Indian Army today fondly remembered these heroes, reaffirming that their legacy of bravery and sacrifice will forever remain a source of pride and inspiration”. (KINS)
