Kulgam, Nov 03 (KINS): Security forces have discovered and destroyed two old terrorist hideouts in the Damhal Hanjipora area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, officials said on Monday.
According to officials as per KINS , the joint operation was launched by the 9 Rashtriya Rifles and Jammu and Kashmir Police following specific intelligence inputs about possible remnants of militant infrastructure in the forest area.
During the extensive search in the Ahmedabad–Nengripora belt, the forces located two abandoned hideouts, which were subsequently demolished to prevent their future use.
Sources said that gas cylinders, clothing, and other consumable items were recovered from the sites, indicating that the hideouts may have been used by terrorist groups in the past. The area was thoroughly cordoned off, and a detailed search was conducted to rule out any ongoing militant presence or fresh activity.
A senior police officer said that operations of this kind are part of sustained efforts to deny safe havens to anti-national elements. “Search operations will continue in forested and remote areas to ensure that terrorists do not succeed in reviving their network,” the officer said.
Kulgam and its adjoining forest areas have historically served as transit routes and shelters for terrorist groups. However, officials noted that intensified counter-insurgency measures in recent years have led to a sharp decline in such activities across the district.(KINS)
