Jammu, Nov 25 (KINS): The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Tuesday said that prominent refugee leaders Ajit Chopra and S. Kulwant Singh, along with nearly 200 refugees from various communities, joined the party during a large programme organised by the party’s refugee cell at BJP Headquarters, Trikuta Nagar, Jammu.
In a statement issued to news agency KINS, BJP Jammu & Kashmir President and Rajya Sabha MP Sat Sharma (CA), General Secretary (Organisation) Ashok Koul, General Secretary Baldev Singh Billawaria, All Cells Incharge Ved Sharma and BJP Refugee Cell Convenor Balvinder Singh formally welcomed the new entrants. Co-convenors Subhash Sharma, Inderjeet Sharma, Parmodh Singh Chib and numerous senior party leaders were also present.
Among the other prominent personalities who joined the party were Manmohan Singh, Amrik Singh, Pardeep Kumar Chibber, Vinay Kumar, Pardeep Kumar Bali, G.K. Dutta, Gurdev Singh, Sahil Vaid, Dev Raj Balksi, Daljit Singh, Harvinder Singh and Rajinder Singh Bali.
Welcoming the new members, Sat Sharma said the BJP has consistently stood with refugees and displaced communities, working to restore their rights, dignity and long-denied opportunities. He noted that the joining coincides with Guru Teg Bahadur Ji’s Shahidi Diwas, a day that inspires the values of sacrifice and justice.
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP has worked with seriousness, compassion and resolve for refugee welfare. The trust shown by refugees and other deprived communities in the BJP is reflected in such massive joinings,” he said.
Ashok Koul said the large turnout is a testament to the refugees’ confidence in the BJP’s welfare-driven policies and its track record of delivering on commitments. He added that the BJP is the only party that has taken sustained and concrete steps for refugee welfare.
Baldev Singh Billawaria reiterated the party’s dedication to resolving long-pending issues of refugees and ensuring that the benefits of Central schemes reach every deserving family.
Ved Sharma said the participation of respected community leaders would further strengthen organisational work at the grassroots level.
Refugee Cell Convenor Balvinder Singh expressed gratitude to the leadership and urged for the granting of ST-2 status and regularisation of refugee bastis to secure the community’s future.(KINS)
