Demand for electric gadgets surges as Kashmir reels under sub-zero temperatures

KINS Desk

Srinagar, Nov 25 (KINS): As Kashmir shivers under sub-zero night temperatures, markets across the Valley are witnessing a sharp rise in the sale of electric gadgets used to beat the cold.

Traders in Srinagar’s Lal Chowk, Batamaloo and other major markets said the demand for electric heaters, blowers, blankets, room warmers and geysers has increased significantly over the past week.

“From the beginning of this cold wave, footfall has gone up by almost double. People are mostly asking for energy-efficient room heaters and electric blankets,” a shopkeeper in Residency Road told news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS).

Residents said the prolonged power cuts are forcing families to buy multiple heating devices as backup. “We have purchased an additional room heater this year. With minus temperatures and erratic power supply, it becomes very difficult, especially for children and elderly,” said a resident of Srinagar.

Dealers also reported a noticeable price rise in some popular brands due to high demand and increased transportation costs. However, many people continue to opt for cheaper, locally available gadgets despite safety concerns.

Doctors, meanwhile, have advised people to follow safety precautions while using electric appliances indoors to avoid fire incidents and health issues due to poor ventilation.

The Meteorological Department has predicted that the cold wave conditions are likely to continue in the coming days, which, traders say, will further boost the sale of electric heating gadgets across Kashmir. (KINS)
