Srinagar, Nov 27 (KINS): Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology; Minister of State for Earth Sciences; and MoS PMO, Dr. Jitendra Singh, today chaired a high-level review meeting at the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to assess the progress of procurement and installation activities under the ambitious ‘Mission Mausam’ initiative.
During the meeting, the Minister instructed officials to expedite timelines, noting that Mission Mausam is a flagship programme announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and must be executed with utmost priority.
The review meeting was attended by Dr. M. Ravichandran, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, along with senior officials and scientists from MoES and IMD. Officials presented a detailed overview of procurement status, infrastructure readiness, and the accelerated installation schedule of new observational and radar systems being deployed nationwide.
Dr. Singh emphasised that Mission Mausam, dedicated to the nation by the Prime Minister, represents a major upgrade in India’s weather forecasting and climate monitoring capabilities. He stressed that timely execution is vital for strengthening early warning systems, improving disaster preparedness, and delivering more accurate, localised weather forecasts.
The Minister directed IMD and MoES officials to ensure transparent and efficient procurement processes, aligned with global best practices. He also called for fast-tracking installations in priority regions and implementing advanced tracking mechanisms to monitor ground-level progress.
Expressing confidence in the coordinated efforts of IMD and the Ministry, he said the targets set under Mission Mausam will be achieved within the planned timelines.(KINS)
