Jammu, Feb 06 (KINS): Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday chaired a high-level security review meeting at Lok Bhawan in Jammu to assess the prevailing security situation in the region.
During the meeting, the Home Minister reviewed the overall law and order scenario, border security arrangements, counter-terrorism operations, and measures to curb infiltration and terrorism.
He was briefed by senior officials on the security preparedness, intelligence inputs, and coordination among various security agencies. Shah as per news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS) emphasized the need for maintaining high alertness, strengthening surveillance along the borders, and ensuring seamless coordination between the Army, BSF, police, and intelligence agencies.
He also directed officials to intensify efforts to maintain peace and stability and to take firm action against elements attempting to disturb normalcy in the region.
Earlier, on the second day of his visit to Jammu, the Home Minister visited Border Out Posts (BOPs) ‘Gurnam’ and ‘Bobiya’ located along the India-Pakistan border. During his visit, he paid floral tributes to martyrs at the “Ajey Prahari” memorial and planted a sapling at BOP Bobiya as a mark of respect and commitment to environmental conservation.
Shah inaugurated welfare projects worth ₹7 crore for BSF personnel, including Solar Water Heaters, Solar Power Plants, and a newly constructed Officers’ Mess. He also laid the foundation stone for BSF infrastructure projects worth ₹242 crore aimed at strengthening border security and improving facilities for the troops.
The event was attended by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Home Secretary, Director of the Intelligence Bureau, Director General of BSF, and other senior officials.
Addressing the BSF personnel, Shah said that his visits to remote and challenging areas in Kutch, Rajasthan, and Jammu and Kashmir always inspire him with the spirit of discipline and dedication displayed by the soldiers. He praised the force for performing its duties with unwavering commitment under difficult conditions and described the BSF as a symbol of courage and discipline.
The Home Minister said that whenever the nation’s borders have faced threats of infiltration or intrusion, the BSF has stood like an impregnable wall. He highlighted the bravery shown during ‘Operation Sindoor’, stating that it added a golden chapter to the force’s 60-year history. He noted that during the operation, the BSF destroyed 118 Pakistani posts and three terrorist launch pads.
He also paid tribute to Sub-Inspector Mohammad Imtiaz Ahmad and Constable Deepak Chingakham, who were posthumously awarded the Vir Chakra for their sacrifice. Shah informed that during the period, the BSF received 16 gallantry medals and several commendation certificates.
Shah further praised the BSF for its role in difficult terrains such as Manipur and Maoist-affected areas of Odisha and Chhattisgarh, as well as its humanitarian work during natural disasters, especially during floods in Punjab.
Highlighting emerging security challenges, the Home Minister said that border management has become increasingly technology-driven and stressed the need for advanced solutions. He recalled that the 61st year of the BSF has been dedicated to modernization and welfare of personnel and their families, with a special team in the Ministry of Home Affairs working on these initiatives.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shah said, the government is fully committed to the welfare of security forces. He announced that a special welfare scheme for BSF personnel will be introduced soon and that substantial funds will be invested in modernizing border infrastructure and equipment.
He also appreciated the contribution of women personnel in strengthening border security. The Home Minister later interacted with the soldiers and had lunch with them.
Shah said that it is due to the dedication and sacrifice of BSF personnel guarding the borders that the nation remains safe and secure.(KINS)
