Head constable arrested red-handed while accepting “15,000 bribe in Srinagar trap case”

Jammu, May 01 (KINS): The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday arrested Head Constable Parvaiz Ahmad Rather in a trap case after he was caught red-handed while allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of 15,000 from a complainant.

As per an ACB statement, the bureau received a written complaint alleging that HC Parvaiz Ahmad Rather, EXK-992204, posted in District Srinagar, had demanded a bribe for removing the complainant’s name from the list of accused in FIR No. 09/2026 registered at Police Station Soura, Srinagar.

The statement said the allegations were discreetly verified through a designated ACB officer, during which it surfaced that the accused had initially demanded ₹50,000, which was later settled at ₹15,000.

Following the verification, the ACB registered FIR No. 08/2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, at Police Station ACB Srinagar against HC Parvaiz Ahmad Rather, son of Gh. Nabi Rather, a resident of Rather Mohalla, Safapora, Ganderbal.

During the investigation, a trap team was constituted and laid a successful trap near District Police Lines Srinagar, where the accused was allegedly caught red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe amount of ₹15,000 — including ₹5,000 in cash and ₹10,000 through cheque. The amount was recovered on the spot, the statement added.

Further investigation into the case is going on.(KINS)
