Srinagar,Aug 27 (KINS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today chaired a review meeting to address waterlogging and the growing drainage challenges in Srinagar, with a focus on both immediate measures and long-term solutions.
Reviewing the Srinagar Municipal Corporation’s proposed five-year plan, the Chief Minister stressed the restoration of natural drains, enhancement of dewatering capacity and separation of sewerage systems from stormwater networks.
He directed the SMC to formulate emergency Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for a swift response during periods of heavy rainfall, while also preparing a sustainable long-term drainage plan for the city.
The Chief Minister further called for a civic awareness campaign to discourage the dumping of polythene and other waste into drains, which contributes to blockages and waterlogging.
