Quil Muqam School Students Take Waste Segregation Drive to 50 Households and 5 Shops

Bandipora, Sep 3 (KINS): Students of Government Higher Secondary School, Quil Muqam, have taken the waste segregation campaign to the community, covering 50 households and five shops under a district-wide initiative involving schools across Bandipora.
Under the programme, each school has been tasked with adopting 50 households and five shops to promote segregation of waste at source and encourage responsible waste disposal.
Following directions received after a meeting with the Deputy Commissioner, the Eco Club of GHS Quil Muqam constituted a dedicated team under the supervision of Nodal Officer and Lecturer Sajjad Ahmad and student leader Sariya Inayat.
Speaking to the media, members of the Eco Club said the students have been working in the locality for the past month, visiting households and shops and explaining the importance of keeping wet and dry waste separately.
The team has registered 50 households and five shops, where residents have started following source segregation practices. During the inspections, the students also monitored whether the households were maintaining separate arrangements for wet and dry waste.
The participating shopkeepers have also started replacing polythene bags with paper bags as part of the initiative.
Members of the Eco Club said the purpose of the campaign is to develop waste segregation as a regular household practice and reduce the disposal of waste into streams and other water bodies.
The initiative is part of the district-wide effort to involve schools and communities in waste management under the Swachh Bharat Mission.
