Says J&K people are being misled

Anika Muneer

Srinagar, Nov 2 (KINS): People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Monday launched a sharp attack on the National Conference (NC), the BJP and other political parties, accusing them of misleading the people of Jammu and Kashmir with promises of employment, security and development while failing to address their actual concerns.

Addressing a gathering at Sher-e-Kashmir Park in Srinagar, Mehbooba alleged that major decisions concerning Jammu and Kashmir were being taken in Delhi, while the people of the region were being offered little more than assurances and promises.

Taking a dig at Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and the National Conference, she said that whenever the party faces political pressure, its leaders invoke Pakistan instead of addressing the issues confronting the people. She also criticised what she described as the party’s changing political stance, alleging that its leaders speak about their commitment to India in Delhi but fail to fulfil their promises to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Mehbooba also criticised the political legacy of Sheikh Abdullah, referring to his repeated references to Pakistan. She questioned the National Conference’s approach towards the people and accused the party of failing to stand by them when it mattered.

Invoking the legacy of her father, late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Mehbooba said that his vision for Jammu and Kashmir remained unfulfilled. She claimed that several major developmental projects and initiatives in the region were started during her father’s tenure, and maintained that the PDP’s contribution to the development of Jammu and Kashmir should not be overlooked.

Recalling her father’s political journey, she said that after completing his graduation and returning to Kashmir, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had made his commitment to India clear. Referring to the political debate surrounding Kashmir’s future, she said her father had supported Kashmir’s association with India and often invoked the famous slogan, “Sare Jahan Se Achha Hindustan Hamara.”

She further alleged that the National Conference had misled people through promises of employment, security and a better future, but had failed to deliver meaningful results. She said that despite repeated assurances, the people of Jammu and Kashmir continued to receive little beyond political promises.

Taking a dig at the BJP, National Conference and other political parties, Mehbooba maintained that the PDP continued to raise the concerns of the people and stand with them.

The gathering witnessed a significant presence of party supporters and workers at Sher-e-Kashmir Park. Several PDP leaders and party functionaries, including Rafiq Pari, were also present during the programme. (KINS)
