Srinagar, Feb 15: Residents of the Nillow area in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district voiced their concern on Thursday over continuous unscheduled power cuts, leading to significant challenges in their daily lives.
According to locals, the power situation has deteriorated over the past month, with frequent outages occurring up to ten times a day, particularly during evening peak hours.
Mohd Shafi, a resident, lamented, “We are living in darkness. The severe electricity shortage is adversely affecting students who are compelled to study under candlelight.”
Students echoed these concerns, highlighting the detrimental impact on their exam preparations due to inconsistent power supply.
Hilal Ahmad, another local, expressed disappointment in the Power Development Department’s (PDD) failure to adhere to announced schedules despite repeated notifications.
Appealing to authorities for urgent intervention, residents urged swift resolution to alleviate their distress.
In response, Muzaffar Ahmad Lone, the Superintending Engineer of KPDCL South Circle, attributed the frequent cuts to excessive load shedding exacerbated by the use of crude heating devices during winter.
He emphasized the need for public cooperation with the department’s guidelines to mitigate power disruptions, assuring ongoing efforts to enforce compliance and maintain scheduled supply.
