Higher reaches of Kashmir valley were adorned with a fresh layer of snow while as the plains were drenched by intermittent rains on Wednesday night.
According to officials at the meteorological department, these weather patterns are expected to gradually improve today.
Reports indicate varying amounts of snowfall across different regions: Doodhpathri witnessed 2-4 inches, Gulmarg 5-7 inches, Sonamarg 2-3 inches, and several other areas including Peer Ki Gali, Sadna Top, and Achoora Gurez received notable snowfall. Additionally, Tangmarg, Bandipora, and Kupwara observed light snowfall until late evening. Meanwhile, in the plains, Srinagar, Qazigund, Pahalgam, and Kupwara recorded rainfall ranging from 0.6 mm to 4.4 mm.
The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway faced disruptions due to mudslides and shooting stones between Ramban and Banihal, prompting authorities to advise against travel until conditions improve. Commuters are urged to stay updated via the Traffic Control Unit and can seek assistance through designated helpline numbers.
As efforts continue to clear snow along the Sonamarg-Leh highway and Mughal road, both remain closed for the 17th consecutive day, posing logistical challenges for travelers. Authorities are working diligently to restore normalcy to these vital roadways amidst the wintry weather conditions.
