J&K ACB Arrests Forester and Forest Guard for Demanding ₹15,000 Bribe

Srinagar, Sep 14 (KINS): The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested two public servants, Rashpaul Singh (Forester) and Avdesh Singh (Forest Guard), for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹15,000. The bribe was allegedly sought for the release of payment for a project titled “fencing work, Mawa Plantation of Vitex, pit planting, and patch sowing in Co. 28/K (Kaneli Nallah), Budhi Block Kathua Forest Range,” which was valued at ₹2,81,290.
According to a statement issued by the ACB, the complainant approached them after refusing to pay the bribe. Following this, the ACB conducted a discreet verification of the complaint, confirming the demand for a bribe by the public servants. Subsequently, an FIR (No. 13/2024) was registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 61(2) BNS at the Police Station Jammu on September 14, 2024, leading to the initiation of an investigation.
A trap team, led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police, was constituted to catch the accused. The operation was successful, with both public servants being caught red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe in the presence of independent witnesses. The ACB team arrested the accused on the spot and recovered the bribe money from their possession. Furthermore, searches were conducted at the residences of both accused individuals in the presence of an independent witness and a Magistrate.
The investigation into the case is ongoing. (KINS)
