Campaigning ends today as J&K prepares for final phase of Assembly Polls

Ishtiyaq Kar
Srinagar, Sept 29 (KINS): As the countdown begins for the third and final phase of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, political parties are making their last efforts to secure votes before campaigning officially ends this evening.

This historic election, the first since the region’s reorganization, has voters across the union territory in the third phase, eager to cast their ballots after a decade-long wait.

The election has been divided into three phases, with the first phase held on September 18 and the second on September 25. On October 1, 40 constituencies will head to the polls in the decisive third phase, with 24 of these falling under the Jammu division.

The results, set to be declared on October 8, will reveal the future political direction of Jammu and Kashmir.

News agency KINS reported that in a final push, Congress leaders, including Party President Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leader Sachin Pilot, are addressing rallies across the region to bolster support for the Congress-National Conference (NC) alliance.

Sachin Pilot is campaigning in Udhampur West, Bani, and Nagrota today. Congress is determined to make inroads in Jammu, traditionally a BJP stronghold, with their message of reform and progress.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his own visit to Jammu ahead of the final phase, rallied voters by touting the BJP’s achievements and pledging continued development and security for the region.

Meanwhile, as per the KINS, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah held a large rally in Baramulla, where he reaffirmed his confidence that the Congress-NC alliance would form the next government.

“The people of Jammu and Kashmir are tired of false promises. The BJP has failed this region. We are here to restore hope, deliver on our promises, and bring real change,” Abdullah said, urging voters to choose a government that truly serves the people.

With political stakes higher than ever, the final phase of the election on October 1 is expected to be pivotal in shaping the future governance of Jammu and Kashmir. (KINS)
