NC keeps promise, introduces resolution to restore J&K’s special status: NC MP

Srinagar, Nov 6 – Srinagar MP Aga Ruhullah Mehdi stated today that the ruling National Conference (NC) has upheld its commitment by introducing a resolution on the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status during the first session of the Legislative Assembly.
“We had promised in our manifesto that this resolution would be the first order of business. Today, NC delivered on that promise,” Mehdi told reporters, expressing gratitude to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and fellow party members.
Emphasizing that the fight for J&K’s special status continues, Mehdi declared, “This is a struggle, and today marks only the beginning.” He highlighted his efforts to address the issue in Parliament and stressed the importance of taking it up within the Assembly as well.
Mehdi responded to BJP’s criticism of Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather, suggesting that the BJP should refrain from questioning the Speaker’s role, given what he described as “biased conduct” in Parliament. The BJP had accused the Speaker of partiality toward NC during the proceedings.
In his closing remarks, Mehdi dismissed the role of the Lieutenant Governor’s office, asserting it “holds no democratic value.”
