We must be prepared for power cuts, but expect better supply this winter: CM Omar Abdullah

Ishityaq Kar

Srinagar, Nov 22 (KINS): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said on Friday that the government has initiated winter preparations to address power issues in the Union Territory.
Speaking to reporters at an event in Srinagar as per news agency KINS, CM Omar Abdullah said that he recently met the Union Power Minister in Delhi, who sanctioned an additional power quota for the state to help mitigate the seasonal electricity shortfall.
Acknowledging the challenges of power cuts during winter, Omar stated that efforts are underway to minimize disruptions, particularly in areas with lower power theft and higher compliance in paying electricity dues.
“We must be prepared for power cuts in winter, but I have directed the power department to ensure reduced curtailment in areas where theft is minimal, and bills are regularly paid. I am hopeful that this winter will see an improvement in power supply,” he said.
Responding to a query about the resolution on Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, Omar Abdullah said, “You must have seen the Prime Minister and Home Minister commenting on it. Those claiming the resolution holds no significance should refrain from making such statements. Our priority now is to restore full statehood, after which we will vigorously pursue this matter,” he asserted.
He further said that key security and law and order decisions, including the release of political prisoners, cannot be addressed under the current administrative setup.
“We need a fully restored statehood to review their cases and facilitate their release,” Omar Abdullah added.(KINS)
