Speaker’s notice aimed at silencing Oppn voices: PDP Legislator Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra

KINS Correspondent

Srinagar, Nov 27 (KINS): Senior PDP leader and MLA Pulwama Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra Wednesday claimed that Speaker Abdullah Rahim Rather’s breach of privilege notice against him was an attempt to silence the Opposition in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly has given PDP legislative party leader Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra seven days to respond to a “breach of privilege” notice issued over his speech in the House earlier this month.
Responding to the notice, Parra said the National Conference had sought votes on the promise of giving voice to the people. “Since forming the government, they have done nothing. We also moved a resolution against the abrogation of Article 370, but they did not allow it to pass in the Assembly. Now, they are diluting the issue and not allowing us to speak,” he told news agency KINS.
“One of the NC legislators made remarks against Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Jamaat-e-Islami, to which I responded in the Assembly. Now the government wants to scare us with such actions,” he added.
Parra, a first-time member of the Legislative Assembly, is accused of breach of privilege by National Conference MLA Nazir Ahmad Khan Gurezi.
“The office has received a communication from Gurezi addressed to the Speaker, in which it has been stated that Parra, during his speech on the Motion of Thanks on the Lieutenant Governor’s Address on November 8, 2024, leveled certain allegations and used derogatory remarks against him.
“Accordingly, the matter was placed before the Speaker, who has sought comments from Parra before proceeding further in the matter,” Qazi Mushtaq Ahmad, Under-Secretary in the J&K Legislative Assembly Secretariat, said in a communication to Parra on Tuesday.
The letter directed Parra to furnish his response in the matter within seven days so that the same could be placed before the Speaker. (KINS)
