Power theft major reason for disruptions in supply: CE KPDCL

KINS DESK
Srinagar, Dec 09 (KINS): The Chief Engineer (Distribution) of the Power Development Department (PDD), Er. Aaquib Sultana Waheed Deva, has urged residents of Kashmir to use electricity responsibly and help address the serious issue of power theft.
Speaking about the challenges faced by the power distribution system, she said power theft and careless electricity usage are major reasons for disruptions in supply.
Aaquib Sultana Deva highlighted that areas where advanced metering systems and insulated cables have been installed are already receiving round-the-clock electricity.
This, she said, shows that better infrastructure and public cooperation can lead to significant improvements in power reliability.
However, in areas with high instances of power theft, frequent outages and supply issues persist. “Power theft not only reduces electricity availability but also increases costs for both the department and honest consumers,” Deva told media, as per news agency KINS.
She appealed to the public to avoid illegal connections, conserve electricity, and report theft to the authorities. “Using electricity responsibly is crucial for building a sustainable power supply for Kashmir,” she said, emphasizing that community support is key to achieving uninterrupted power supply.
