Srinagar, Dec 09 (KINS): Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Monday urged the Central government to take a clear and decisive stance on the issue of Rohingya refugees in Jammu, stating that these people need to be treated as humans as long as they are here.
Speaking to reporters as per news agency KINS, Omar said the refugees cannot be treated inhumanely, stressing that they are human beings and should not be subjected to harsh or degrading conditions.
He pointed out that the fate of the Rohingyas should be decided by the central government, highlighting that the Jammu and Kashmir government did not bring them to the region.
Omar’s comments come amid growing political controversy surrounding the settlement of Rohingya refugees in Jammu.
He stated, “As long as they are in Jammu, we cannot leave them alone to fend for themselves or treat them like animals”.
“The central government must decide whether they want to deport them or allow them to stay here.”(KINS)
