Srinagar, Jan 31 (KINS):The decrease in snowfall at the famous tourist destination, Gulmarg this January has compelled snow skiing enthusiasts to flock to Dras.

News agency KINS reported that due to the lack of snow at Kashmir’s major skiing destination, Gulmarg in the month of January, tourists have found it difficult to enjoy skiing, leading them to head towards Dras, located in the Leh-Ladakh region, where snowfall is proving to be more feasible.

This January, the expected snowfall in Kashmir did not occur, which has led to a decrease in the attraction of the famous skiing resort of Gulmarg. According to local tour guides and hotel owners, “The snow level at Gulmarg and other skiing spots is very low, which is impacting snow skiing activities.”

In recent years, there has been a noticeable shift in the snowfall patterns in Kashmir. Scientists attribute this to global warming and fluctuations in weather patterns. As a result, tourists are now heading to Dras, to enjoy skiing in its snow-covered areas.

The weather in Dras is colder and snowier compared to Kashmir, and there is a higher chance of snowfall there.

Dras, located about 150 kilometers from Kashmir, has become an attractive destination for tourists at this time. In addition to skiing, the area is famous for its natural beauty and tranquility.

An official from the local tourism department said, “We are paying attention to this situation and are focusing more on snow-covered destinations to provide tourists with a better experience. Promoting areas like Dras could provide new opportunities for the tourism industry.”

Experts believe that such weather changes may continue to cause difficulties for the tourism industry for a longer time, but promoting new areas like could help revive tourism in Kashmir.(KINS)
