Jammu, Apr 15 (KINS): The Jammu & Kashmir Police inaugurated a “12-Week Proficiency Course in Fingerprint Science” on Monday at the Conference Hall, DPL Jammu. Organized in collaboration with the Central Fingerprint Bureau (CFPB), National Crime Records Bureau, the course aims to build specialized capabilities in fingerprint analysis and enhance the use of the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS).
M.K. Sinha, ADGP Headquarters/Coordination, PHQ, graced the inaugural session as the chief guest. In his address, Sinha underlined the strategic importance of the training, stating that once proficient, the participants will serve as a force multiplier in forensic investigations through expert fingerprint analysis. He urged the trainees to engage fully and apply their knowledge in the field to advance the department’s objectives in crime detection and law enforcement.
Dr. Sunil Gupta, IGP Crime, J&K, provided an overview of the trainees, while Dr. Sudha, Director, CFPB, presented the structure and objectives of the course. The vote of thanks was delivered by Manoj Kumar Pandith.
A total of 40 officers — including 3 Inspectors, 6 Sub-Inspectors, 8 Head Constables, 22 Constables, and 1 lady official — have been selected for the intensive training program. The course is divided into two phases:
Phase 1 (10 weeks) will be held in Jammu, covering theoretical modules such as the biological basis and history of fingerprints, contributions of fingerprint science pioneers, collection and classification techniques, and identification methods.
Phase 2 will take place at the Delhi Fingerprint Bureau and the Central Fingerprint Bureau, focusing on hands-on training, including crime scene management, locating and processing latent prints, and suspect identification.
Also present at the event was Sarah Rizvi, IPS, DIG-Training, PHQ, J&K, who interacted with the participants and extended her best wishes for the successful completion of the course.(KINS)
