Multi-layered security in place for Amarnath Yatra 2025: IGP Kashmir

KINS Desk

Srinagar, June 25 (KINS): Ahead of the annual Amarnath Yatra, beginning July 3, Inspector General of Police Kashmir, V K Birdi, announced that robust multi-layered security arrangements have been put in place to ensure the safety and smooth conduct of the pilgrimage.

Speaking to reporters during his visit to the Nunwan base camp in Pahalgam, Birdi said, “Compared to last year, the security framework this time is more in-depth and comprehensive. Jammu and Kashmir Police, in coordination with other security agencies, has made full preparations for the 38-day yatra.”

The IGP explained that security measures have been divided into zonal levels, with extensive drills conducted across all strategic locations — including camps, roads, and interior stretches along the pilgrimage route. “These drills help refine our alertness and ensure all personnel are prepared for any contingency,” he said.

Security drills were conducted at multiple locations on Wednesday, including Pahalgam, Anantnag, and Qazigund in south Kashmir; Pantha Chowk in Srinagar; and Sumbal in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

Birdi also emphasised the importance of public cooperation in the success of the pilgrimage. “The support of the local population plays a vital role in the smooth conduct of the yatra. This year too, locals are enthusiastic and ready to assist the pilgrims,” he said.

The annual pilgrimage to the Amarnath cave shrine in the Himalayas attracts lakhs of devotees each year, and security remains a top priority for the authorities.(KINS)
