Restore statehood to J&K without further delay: Omar Abdullah to Centre

KINS Desk

Srinagar Aug 07 (KINS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday urged the Centre to expedite the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, stating that “a lot of time has passed” since the Government of India assured the Supreme Court that statehood would be returned at the earliest.

“The Government told the Supreme Court that statehood would be restored as soon as possible. Since then, a lot of time has passed. We want Jammu and Kashmir to become a state again without further delay,” Omar Abdullah told reporters in Gurez.

The Chief Minister also stressed untapped potential of border tourism in remote areas like Gurez, saying it could play a significant role in addressing unemployment and uplifting the economy of these regions.

“Border tourism, like what we are witnessing in Gurez, can help reduce unemployment and bring much-needed development to far-flung areas. The Centre must focus on empowering people economically and administratively,” he said. (KINS)
