NC MLA seeks Assembly discussion on PSA detention of Legislator Mehraj Malik

KINS Correspondent

Srinagar, Oct 27 (KINS): National Conference (NC) MLA from Gurez, Nazir Ahmad Khan, on Monday demanded that the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly hold a discussion on the grounds under which MLA Mehraj Malik was detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA).

Reacting to BJP MLA R.S. Pathania’s remark that the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Doda had the authority to impose PSA on Malik, Khan asserted that the Assembly’s authority superseded all.

“The Assembly is supreme, even above the court. Assembly makes rules and then court follows them. The House must discuss why PSA was slapped on him,” Khan said, drawing applause from several members.

He further maintained that Malik had no involvement in any terror-related activities and questioned the justification behind the detention. “The DC cannot book somebody without valid reasons. Tomorrow, he may book any other member,” Khan cautioned, according to news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS)
