Srinagar, Nov 14 (KINS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday expressed gratitude to the voters of Jammu and Kashmir’s Nagrota and Odisha’s Nuapada after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured emphatic victories in both Assembly by-elections.
Calling the results a strong affirmation of public confidence in the BJP’s governance model, the Prime Minister posted on X:
“I thank the people of Nagrota in Jammu and Kashmir as well as Nuapada in Odisha for blessing the BJP with spectacular victories in the by-polls. Congratulations to the newly elected MLAs Devyani Rana Ji and Jay Dholakia Ji. Wishing them the very best in serving the people. Compliments to the BJP Karyakartas who worked round the clock to ensure these wins.”
In Nagrota, BJP candidate Devyani Rana registered an impressive win with 42,350 votes, defeating her nearest rival Harsh Dev Singh of the Jammu & Kashmir National Panthers Party (India), who secured 17,703 votes. Shamim Begum of the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference came third with 10,872 votes, trailing by 31,478.
Devyani Rana is the daughter of former BJP MLA Devender Rana, who passed away on October 31, 2024, just a week after taking oath as an MLA. A two-time representative from Nagrota, he had won the 2024 election on a BJP ticket after previously contesting and winning as a JKNC candidate in 2014.
In Odisha’s Nuapada, BJP’s Jay Dholakia clinched a decisive lead, securing 1,23,869 votes and defeating Congress candidate Ghasi Ram Majhi by a margin of 83,748 votes.
The back-to-back victories have provided a major boost to the ruling BJP, reinforcing its electoral momentum ahead of upcoming political battles.(KINS)
