CM Omar discusses Iran situation with EAM Jaishankar, seeks safety of J&K residents

Srinagar, Jan 15 (KINS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday spoke to External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar regarding the evolving situation in Iran and the safety of people from Jammu and Kashmir currently in the country.

The Chief Minister said the External Affairs Minister shared his assessment of the ground situation and briefed him about the plans and measures being put in place by the Ministry of External Affairs in view of the developments.

Omar Abdullah as per news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS) expressed gratitude to Dr Jaishankar for assuring that all necessary steps would be taken to safeguard the interests and lives of students and other residents from Jammu and Kashmir who are presently in Iran.

“The External Affairs Minister assured that the Government of India is closely monitoring the situation and will take every possible step to ensure the safety and well-being of our students and other people from J&K,” the Chief Minister said.

The J&K government, he added, remains in touch with the concerned authorities and families, and is closely monitoring the situation.(KINS)
