Food outlet closed in Srinagar after cockroach found in Biryani

Srinagar, May 11 (KINS): The Food Safety Team Srinagar inspected a food outlet after a video showing a cockroach in biryani went viral on social media. During the inspection, the team found the establishment in poor hygienic condition and observed evidence of cockroach infestation on the premises.
As per an official statement, violations of Schedule 4 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 were found during the inspection, and samples of the prepared food were also collected for analytical purposes.
The statement further said that the Food Business Operator had failed to carry out mandatory pest control measures as required under the Act. In view of the violations, the establishment has been closed, and a challan will be submitted before the competent court.
The department also directed all Food Business Operators to maintain proper hygiene and carry out regular pest control, warning that strict action will be taken against violators under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.(KINS)
