Jammu, Sept 23 (KINS): Jammu Police have arrested a gangster who allegedly escaped from an observation home in R S Pura along with two Pakistani nationals in February, following a seven-month-long search.
Senior Superintendent of Police Jammu Joginder Singh said the accused, Karanjit Singh alias “Gugga”, a resident of Dablehar, was arrested in Delhi by the Special Operations Group (SOG). Two of his alleged associates, Naresh Kumar alias “Major” and Rahul Kumar alias “Sundi”, were also arrested.
Police said Karanjit was allegedly involved in 13 criminal cases, including murder, assault, rioting, criminal intimidation and illegal arms possession.
He had allegedly escaped from the observation home on February 16 after attacking police personnel along with Pakistani inmates Mohammad Suna-ullah and Ahsan Anwar. The two Pakistani nationals were arrested within hours, while Karanjit remained absconding.
The SSP said police teams searched several locations across multiple states before tracing and arresting him in Delhi.
Police said further investigation is underway into the escape, the alleged criminal network and the circumstances under which a pistol and mobile phone were brought into the observation home.(KINS)
