Srinagar, Sep 28 (KINS): Following the decision of the Council of Ministers, the Jammu and Kashmir Government has issued orders extending the coverage of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) to eligible employees who were appointed against posts advertised or notified before the introduction of the New Pension Scheme (NPS).
Under the order, employees appointed against posts that were advertised/notified before December 24, 2009, but who subsequently joined service under the NPS, will be eligible to switch to the Old Pension Scheme.
The government has provided a one-time option to eligible employees to exercise their choice of switching from NPS to OPS.
The option must be exercised through the proper channel within three months from the date of issuance of the government order.
The government has also clarified that the option, once exercised, will be final and binding. Employees who do not exercise the option within the stipulated three-month period will continue to remain covered under the New Pension Scheme.
The decision is expected to benefit thousands of employees appointed against posts advertised before the notification of the NPS in Jammu and Kashmir.(KINS)
