Var chairs PSAK’s meet at its office, says decision will be implemented in letter and spirit
Srinagar, Nov 06 : Amid uncertainty in the Valley, the Private School Association of Kashmir (PSAK) have decided to waive off 50 per cent fee to the wards of transporters, who according to them have suffered huge losses due to the prevailing situation in Kashmir since August 5.
The transporters and other communities in Kashmir have been observing spontaneous shutdown across the Valley since August 5, when the central government announced the repealing of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status (Article 370) and bifurcation of erstwhile State into two Union Territories including Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
According to the wire service–he PSAK headed by its chairman G N Var held a meeting today at its office here at Civil Secretariat road.
The meeting was called in view of the demands of parents regarding the fee waiver following the government’s directions, asking the school administration not to take fee for the shut days.
All the schools remained shut since August 5 following the scrapping of Article 370 by the government.
Var while talking to said that it has been decided that the wards of transporters enrolled in different private educational institutions falling under the control of association will provide 50 per cent waiver to the wards of transporters. “The people as well as the school administration are aware that the transporters suffered a huge loss due to the prevailing situation. Keeping in view, the association has decided to assist them by giving 50 percent fee waiver to their wards,” he said.
Var said that the decision taken by the association will be implemented on the ground in letter and spirit, adding that all the schools registered with the association will follow the decision.
He added that the government has although directed for the waiving of fee to all the students, but it would be impossible to waive off the fee to all the students. “The private schools are being crushed by one way or another. We are being charged NPAs and other things, which is not possible without getting fee from the students,” he said.
He said that the dates for submitting the NPAs for schools buses should be extended. “In case the dates are not extended, the government should deploy the SRTC buses for the students and we will stop the bus services from now onwards,” he said.
He said that the association is confused over the frequent orders by the different administrative officers. “We are not able to understand as to who is controlling the education sector from the government. Every day, a new order is being issued by the different government officials, thus leaving the association worried. A single body should deal with the issues, so that we will be answerable to the concerned body,” he added. (KNO)
