KU fails to re-open AllamaIqbal Library, students suffer

Srinagar, Nov 28 : Even as the activities in Colleges and Universities across Kashmir resumed after the gap of over three months, the Kashmir University (KU) has miserably failed to reopen the Allama Iqbal library (24X7), leaving the students in lurch.

According to the wire service—, sources said that the library was closed soon after the government decided to close the varsity in August this year. All the educational institutions across the Valley remained closed for a long to maintain law and order following the abrogation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status (Article 370) and bifurcated the erstwhile State into two Union Territories.

However, the continuous closure Allama Iqbal library at KU is adding to the miseries of students. “The students are being left on God’s mercy. The KU an authority seems to be least bothered to provide respite to the students in shape of re-opening of Allama Iqbal library,” Foziya, a student said.

Another student, Irfan Ahmad said that he has skipped the admissions for bachelors in medical science and was preparing for the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET).

“Most of the times, I used to go to Allama Iqbal library or search it online to solve any equation, but from past four months, my preparations has come to a grinding halt,” he told.

The students further alleged that the major libraries in Srinagar and other district libraries are not functional since August-05.

However, KU’s Dean Academic Affair (DEA) professor Akbar Masoodi said that the library is functional. The students however argued, stating that the library has not been reopened by the concerned authorities, thereby putting the career of thousands of students at stake. (KNO)
