Mughal road remains closed, Srinagar-Jammu highway open for traffic

The historic 86-km-long Mughal road remained closed since November 6 due to accumulation of snow and slippery conditions while highway, connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country was through for traffic.

An official said that heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) will ply from Jammu to Srinagar only while Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) from both sides on Sunday.

He said the Mughal road, linking Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region, remained closed though massive snow clearance operations had been launched from both sides of the Pir-ki-Gali.

The state government has already taken up the issue of constructing a tunnel to make it all weather road.
