Army organizes winter camp for children in Gurez

Dawar : A winter camp was organised by the Dawar Battalion of Snow Leopard Brigade for the children of the remote Gurez Valley. 


In a statement, the spokesman said that the camp encompassed various recreational and educational activities to include computers, games and adventure from 02 Feb to 22 Feb 20.

 
“Gurez faces severe winters with heavy snowfall every year due to which the schools remain closed during the month of January and Feburary.

During this period the children remain restricted to their homes due to inclement weather conditions. To optimally utilise the winter break, Dawar Battalion organised a winter camp to enhance the overall personality of the talented youth, ” he said.


The spokesman added that various indoor activities to includeing computers, chess, carom, screening of documentaries, group discussions and driving of snow scooter were organised. “The camp provided an opportunity to the youth to identify their interests and develop their skills accordingly. The parents were also invited during the camp to witness camp activities and encourage their children, ” he said.


The spokesman said the initiative was appreciated by the civil administration of Gurez, village elders and the local leaders. 
“The locals thanked the commander Snow Leopard Brigade for providing an excellent opportunity to the teenagers of the Gurez. Such efforts will go a long way in enhancing the bonhomie between our Awam and our Army, ” he added.
