9 butchers booked under FSS Act

 

Srinagar April 05 KINS On the directions of the Commissioner Food and Drugs Administration, a special drive to check the quality of food items during the month of Ramadaan  has been initiated by the Food Safety Wing of Drugs and Food Control Organisation. 

During this drive nine prosecutions have been prepared against butchers for violating sanitary and hygienic requirements of Food Safety and Standards Act and about 25 kgs of mutton found unfit for human consumption was destroyed on spot. Moreover during this drive two food processing units which include one baker and one meat processing unit were prohibited for carrying further manufacturing of their products as these units were found being run in violation of rules.

The inspection of butcher shops was conducted by the joint team of Food Safety Officers and Veterinary Assistant Surgeons from Animal husbandry and Sheep husbandry departments under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner Food Safety Srinagar.

Furthermore the drive to check the quality of eatables especially that of Mutton, milk, dates, suji, fresh fruits and vegetables shall be intensified in the coming days.

All food business operators are hereby directed to refrain from malpractices and any deviation shall be dealt strictly as per the provisions of Food Safety and Standards Act. KINS
