Kashmiri Language Union protest in Srinagar, seek preservation, promotion of Kashmiri language

Srinagar, Dec 27, : Scores of the people associated with Kashmiri Language Union (KLU) on Thursday staged a protest demonstration seeking promotion and preservation of Kashmiri language at Press Enclave in Srinagar on Thursday.

 Protestors from various areas of the valley holding banners and placards which read “Kashrin henz pehchan, kashir zaban kashir zaban” and “save Mother tongue of Kashmir”, assembled at press colony and sought governor administration’s intervention in preserving the mother tongue of Kashmir by making it compulsory subject till higher secondary level in all educational institutions.

The protesting persons has appealed the administration including Director of School Education Ghulam Nabi Itoo to implement the order Via 333 edu of 2017 which states that mother tongue of Jammu and Kashmir (Kashmiri, Dogri and Bhudhi) should be made compulsory till higher secondary level throughout the state including Chenab valley.

In order to implement Kashmir language, we have met several concerned authorities but there were no initiatives taken by the authorities till now, said a protesting person Hilal Ahmed.

“Kashmiri language, which is known as “Mother Tongue of Kashmir” is now dying and we are losing our identity day by day,” he added. The protestors threatened that if their demands are not fulfilled they all will go for the hunger strike.
