Encounter breaks out in Shopian

Srinagar, April 13: A gunfight rages between militants and government forces in Gahand area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday morning.

Reports said a  joint team of Army’s 34RR and SOG Shopian launched a cordon and search operation in Guhand.

A senior police officer told  that on a specific information the forces cordoned off an orchard in Guhand. As the joint team of forces approached the orchards the suspected militants hiding fired upon the forces triggering an encounter, the officer said.

As per the sources two to three militants are believed to be trapped.

While this report was being filed , the exchange of firing was going on.
