Ensure Preservation of Water Bodies, Smooth Irrigation Water Flow: DC B’la to Concerned Officers

Baramulla, April 16: Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Dr G N Itoo today directed the concerned officers to preserve all the water bodies especially River Jhelum for their useful and efficient utilization. He stressed for the restoration of essential water bodies including springs so that the water can be used productively.

Deputy Commissioner issued such directions during a meeting with the officers of different departments during which a thorough discussion with regard to the preservation and restoration of water bodies and the necessary measures required, was held.

On the occasion, DC emphasized upon concerned officers to work with zeal and synergy so that all the water bodies are protected for their sustainable use by the people. He directed to maintain close coordination so that all the constraints, if any are resolved in a time bound manner. He also directed for maintaining cleanliness around water bodies so that they are not contaminated for consumption.

Highlighting the significance of River Jhelum, DC urged upon people not to litter garbage on its banks so that its cleanliness is maintained. He also issued directions to the concerned authorities to put in extra efforts in this regard.

Meanwhile, DC also reviews the mechanism of irrigation water in view of upcoming agricultural season wherein DC directed for ensuring smooth and hassle free flow of irrigation water. He exhorted to streamline the flow of water in irrigation canals by the proper desiltation of canals so that the farmers may not face any inconvenience due to water shortage. He directed the concerned Tehsidars for submitting report on regular basis so that effective monitoring of the process is ensured. Moreover, he urged upon the farmers to play pivotal role and cooperate with the concerned agencies for proper and timely desiltation of canals.

ADC Sopore, SDM Gulmarg and Uri, SEs, Tehsildars, EOs and other concerned officers attended the meeting.
