Indian Cricket Team to visit Pakistan next year for Asia Cup

Srinagar: The defending champions of Asia Cup, India will travel to Pakistan for the first time after both the nations played a bilateral series in 2005-2006. India was scheduled to begin the tour of Pakistan from January 2009 but the series was called off in wake of 2008 Mumbai attacks.

Both India and Pakistan will play against each other in Pakistan after a gap of 14 years. Pakistan is set to host the Asia Cup 2020 edition, decided in a meeting of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) held in Singapore on Tuesday.
Bilateral ties were resumed after BCCI called the Pakistan national team to play three ODIs and two T20Is in December 2012 but India never visited the bordering nation. Since 2012, India and Pakistan have not played any bilateral series and only play in the ICC and ACC tournaments.

India and Pakistan last played in the Asia Cup 2018, where India defeated Pakistan and went on to win the trophy after beating Bangladesh in the finals. In 2017, India and Pakistan met two times in the Champions Trophy where India won the league stage match and Pakistan defeated India in the finals to lift the trophy.

India and Pakistan will now play in the World Cup 2019 taking place in England and Wales. The arch-rivals will lock horns against each other on June 16 in Manchester’s Old Trafford stadium.
