Govt fails to create hygienic condition for automobile workers in Srinagar

Ishtiyaq Ahmed

Srinagar, May 30 : The government has failed to create any hygienic condition for the automobile workers at Srinagar Batamaloo area posing a threat to the people.

A mechanic at Srinagar Batamaloo said this area has turned into a hell.

“We suffer from health problems because of the stench all around,” the mechanic said.

He said that Srinagar Development Authority and Srinagar Municipal Corporation were responsible for its present condition.

“We have been told repeatedly that we will be rehabilitated but to no avail. They just come here to collect the rental fee,” he said.

The shopkeepers said that cleaning never take place in the area.

The automobile shops were established near the Batamaloo bus stand in 1976. In 2017, their business was badly hit after the government decided to shift the bus stand. Out of 1300 shops, 1000 have already shut down. (KNS)
